Judge Dan Greear

Judge Dan Greear is a lifelong Kanawha County resident. He graduated from South Charleston High School, received his bachelor’s degree from Liberty University in 1989, and received his law degree from West Virginia University College of Law in 1992.

In 2021, Governor Jim Justice appointed Judge Greear to one of the three seats on the newly created Intermediate Court of Appeals. Governor Justice previously appointed Judge Greear to the circuit court bench in Kanawha County in July 2018. He served until November of that year.

At the time of his appointment to the Intermediate Court of Appeals, Judge Greear was chief counsel for the West Virginia House of Delegates. He previously served three years as Chief of Staff for the House of Delegates. He received the 2021 Legislative Staff Achievement Award from the National Conference of State Legislatures’ Leadership Staff Professional Association.

Judge Greear served in the House of Delegates, representing Kanawha County from 1995 to 1996.

He was the chief counsel for the West Virginia Attorney General’s Office from 2013 to 2014. Before that, Judge Greear was a Managing Member of KKB, LLC, focusing on general civil litigation.

Judge Greear has been a football official with the West Virginia Secondary Schools Activities Commission since 1999. He is a deacon and Sunday School teacher at Spring Hill Baptist Church in South Charleston.

Judge Greear and his wife, Amy, have two sons and live in Kanawha County.
