Learning Center

The Judicial Learning Center offers exhibits on the history and role of the judicial branch of government. There are hands-on activities designed for school-aged children and adults that allow visitors to play the role of a judge and to test their court knowledge. There is a Supreme Court seal puzzle, scales that visitors can attempt to balance, and mini school lockers that hold information about court cases relevant to students.

"AND JUSTICE FOR ALL"

Former Supreme Court Justice Evan Jenkins appears in a series of educational videos entitled "And Justice for All." Each video is less than five minutes long. The videos are available on the Judiciary's YouTube Channel: https://www.youtube.com/c/wvsupremecourt.

The videos consist of brief discussions about the Supreme Court Courtroom as well as differences and similarities between the U.S. Supreme Court and the West Virginia Supreme Court. Other videos discuss the requirements to be a judicial officer in West Virginia, why judges wear robes, and an explanation of sine die. A new video is added about once a week.

HAVE GAVEL WILL TRAVEL 

Active and retired justices, circuit judges, family court judges, and magistrates are available to visit schools to participate in Read Aloud programs and talk to classes about the judicial system.
